Fatehnagar Flyover Staircase Collapse Injures Two

On Monday, May 27, 2025, a section of the over 30-year-old pedestrian staircase attached to the Fatehnagar flyover in Sanathnagar, Hyderabad, collapsed, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The victims sustained superficial injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Sanathnagar police suspect that recent rainfall may have compromised the structural integrity of the staircase, leading to its failure.

In response to the incident, Hyderabad Road Development Authority and Administration (HYDRAA) Commissioner AV Ranganath conducted an on-site inspection. Determining the staircase to be unsafe, he ordered its immediate demolition and initiated a city-wide survey of similar aging structures, enlisting civil engineering experts to prevent future accidents.

The HYDRAA disaster response team subsequently dismantled the damaged staircase using heavy machinery. Local residents informed Commissioner Ranganath that the staircase experienced heavy foot traffic, particularly on Sundays due to the weekly Sanathnagar market. Fatehnagar Corporator Satish Goud, present at the scene, assured that new stairs would be constructed soon to ensure safe pedestrian access.

This incident underscores the necessity for regular maintenance and assessment of aging infrastructure in Hyderabad to ensure public safety.
