MCD Covers Manhole with Cardboard, 7-Year-Old Falls In

A case of negligence by the MCD has come to light in Delhi, where a seven-year-old child narrowly escaped a fatal accident. The incident occurred in South Delhi's Defense Colony Block D, where a third-grade student from a public school fell into a manhole covered with cardboard on Friday. Around 8 AM, the boy was being dropped off at school by his father, accompanied by his mother and younger sister.

As the boy got out of the car outside the school, he unknowingly stepped onto a cardboard sheet covering a manhole. The cardboard gave way under his weight, causing him to fall into the manhole. Bystanders and the child's parents quickly sprang into action and managed to rescue him from the sewer. He was immediately taken to AIIMS Trauma Center, where he received first aid.

The boy's father, a bank employee, stated that the manhole cover had been placed to the side and a cardboard cover was left over the open hole. In a viral video on social media, the father blamed the MCD for the incident. He questioned the auditing of manholes in the city and demanded that MCD officials take responsibility for the accident.
