Hyderabad, May 24, 2025 — In a significant administrative action, the Telangana State Government has suspended Dr. N. Ravi Kumar, the in-charge superintendent of Niloufer Hospital, following allegations of unauthorized construction of a private medical store within the hospital premises.
The suspension came after an inspection by the Hyderabad district collector's office on May 22, which uncovered the illegal structure. According to official sources, the store was built without requisite permissions, prompting immediate action from the health department. The unauthorized construction was subsequently demolished.
Health department officials confirmed that Dr. Ravi Kumar allegedly allowed the private construction without informing higher authorities and reportedly used the Chief Minister's Office name to suppress complaints regarding hospital operations. This led to further scrutiny and a formal report submitted to the Director of Medical and Health Services.
In response to the incident, the government has appointed Dr. G. Vijay Kumar as the new in-charge superintendent of Niloufer Hospital. Officials stated that the decision reflects the state’s commitment to upholding transparency and proper governance in public healthcare institutions.
Niloufer Hospital, one of Hyderabad’s premier pediatric institutions, has been under the spotlight in recent months over administrative concerns. The health department’s swift action is being seen as a move to restore order and reinforce accountability within its ranks.
The incident has also sparked discussions on the need for stricter surveillance of public hospital facilities to prevent unauthorized commercial activities on government property.
