The Lucknow unit of the Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha has submitted a written application to file a First Information Report (FIR) against the producer, director, star cast, and entire team involved in the film 'Adipurush'. The application highlights the Mahasabha's objection to the alleged insult directed at central characters such as Ram, Sita, and Hanuman. It also criticizes the costumes, appearance, and dialogues in the film, deeming them disrespectful to Sanatan Dharma.
According to the complaint provided to the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow, it is stated, "The film industry has consistently targeted Sanatan because it lacks the courage to produce movies based on other religions." Shishir Chaturvedi, representing the Mahasabha, expressed, "The film industry, funded by Dawood Ibrahim, incessantly targets Hinduism, our deities, our sacred texts, and our traditions. 'Adipurush' portrays Lord Ram, Sita Maiyya, and Hanuman ji in a highly objectionable manner. We demand a complete overhaul of the presentation, dialogues, choice of words, and costumes. This portrayal of our Lord's life is entirely incorrect."
The Mahasabha is calling for both the central and state governments to impose a complete ban on the film. Chaturvedi remarked, "If Nepal can ban the film, what is stopping us from doing the same?" In Nepal, the objection centers around the inaccurate depiction of Sita's birthplace. Chaturvedi further questioned, "How is it possible that while a magnificent Ram Temple is being constructed, such films that shamelessly mock our deities are allowed to be screened?"
Chakrapani Maharaj, the chairperson of the Mahasabha, has demanded the arrest of Manoj Muntashir, the dialogue writer for the movie. He stated, "He deserves imprisonment for hurting the sentiments of millions of Sanatanis."
Social media platforms have also witnessed widespread criticism of the film, particularly its dialogues. Many users find the language used to be unfitting for the story. A notable comparison has been drawn to Ramanand Sagar's television series, 'Ramayan,' which garnered a cult following upon its release in 1987. The enduring popularity of the series was evident when it was re-aired on Doordarshan during the COVID-19 lockdown.
