As of May 31, 2025, India has witnessed a significant increase in active COVID-19 cases, reaching a total of 3,395. This marks a substantial rise from 257 active cases reported on May 22. Kerala remains the most affected state, accounting for 1,336 active cases, followed by Maharashtra with 467 cases and Delhi with 375.
In the past 24 hours, four COVID-19-related deaths have been reported across the country, with one each in Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. Delhi alone recorded 81 new infections during this period.
Health authorities have indicated that most of the current cases are mild, with patients recovering under home care. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has urged citizens not to panic but to remain vigilant.
In response to the surge, states like Karnataka have issued precautionary guidelines, especially for schools scheduled to reopen in June. The public is advised to practice responsible behavior, including wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining physical distancing, and adhering to good hygiene practices.
The recent spike in cases is attributed to the emergence of new sub-variants in the western and southern regions of India. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to mitigate further spread.
