Stand-up comedian Samay Raina has reportedly pulled out of his upcoming shows in Gujarat following the uproar over Ranveer Allahbadia’s recent comments on India’s Got Latent. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) confirmed on Wednesday that Raina’s performances in the state have been cancelled, and tickets for the events were promptly removed from the BookMyShow platform.
VHP spokesperson Hitendrasinh Rajput revealed that Raina had planned four shows in Gujarat: one in Surat on April 17, another in Vadodara on April 18, and two in Ahmedabad on April 19 and 20. However, in the wake of growing public outrage, the events were called off. “Although tickets were available until Wednesday morning, they have since been taken down from the platform,” Rajput stated, according to Hindustan Times.
VHP regional secretary Ashvin Patel further explained that the cancellation was a direct result of the controversy. “In light of the widespread anger, it seems the organisers have opted to cancel Samay Raina’s shows in Gujarat. We appreciate the public’s awareness and vigilance, and I strongly urge organisers to reconsider hosting such events in the future,” Patel added.
