Hyderabad: New Building for Osmania General Hospital to be Constructed in Goshamahal

In a relief for heritage enthusiasts, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced that the new building for Osmania General Hospital (OGH) will be constructed on 30 acres of land in Goshamahal, while the existing historic building will be restored.

Revanth Reddy informed the assembly that the foundation stone for the new OGH building will be laid within the next 20 days on the site of the old police quarters.

This announcement was made by Revanth Reddy in response to a question about the hospital buildings posed by AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.

The previous BRS government, led by K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), had decided to demolish the historic Osmania General Hospital building and construct a new one on the same site. Before losing to the Congress in last year's assembly elections, they had proposed demolishing the old building to make way for a modern hospital with 1,812 beds. This decision was criticized by heritage activists.

It should be recalled that AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi had sparked controversy and faced criticism from activists when he suggested that the historic building should be demolished to construct the new hospital building.
