In a recent turn of events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi seized upon a social media post by a former Pakistani minister praising Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the Congress party is under the tutelage of Pakistan and is actively promoting Gandhi as the next prime minister of India.
Speaking at a rally in Anand, Gujarat, PM Modi reiterated his oft-used 'shehzada' (prince) moniker for Rahul Gandhi, highlighting what he perceives as a close association between the Congress and Pakistan. He remarked, "It's quite telling, isn't it? At a time when the Congress party is struggling in India, barely visible even with a microscope, Pakistan is expressing its fervent wishes. Pakistani leaders are openly rooting for the Congress, eager to see their chosen 'prince' ascend to the throne of Prime Minister."
PM Modi continued, "It's evident that the Congress has become a devotee ('mureed') of Pakistan. This unholy alliance between Pakistan and the Congress stands exposed now. Our adversaries seek not a robust Indian government but a feeble, corrupt one reminiscent of the pre-2014 era."
The Prime Minister's remarks were prompted by a social media post by Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, a former minister in Imran Khan's cabinet, who shared a video of Rahul Gandhi with the caption: "Rahul on fire...". PM Modi also referenced India's response to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, emphasizing his government's stance of not capitulating to pressure. He contrasted his administration's approach with past governments, highlighting a shift towards proactive measures against terrorism.
Continuing his critique, PM Modi addressed recent controversial statements made by Maria Alam, a relative of Salman Khurshid, within the INDIA alliance. Alam had advocated for 'vote jihad' as a means to oust the BJP-led government at the center.
"The INDIA alliance's true colors have been laid bare by one of its own members. Now, they're advocating 'vote jihad', adding to the lexicon of divisive terms like 'love jihad' and 'land jihad'. This call to action, coming from a well-educated Muslim individual with close ties to the Congress, is unacceptable," remarked PM Modi.
He further condemned the INDIA alliance's attempt to consolidate Muslim votes, labeling it as an affront to democracy and constitutional principles. "No Congress leader has disavowed this divisive rhetoric yet. This is yet another instance of their politics of appeasement, undermining the fabric of our nation," concluded PM Modi.
