Is Hyderabad Becoming a Union Territory After June 2? Insights from KTR

Hyderabad served as the shared capital for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for a stipulated period of 10 years, which will conclude on June 2, 2024.

K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), conveyed on April 28, that in the absence of BRS MPs in Parliament, Hyderabad might be converted into a union territory by the Union government. He urged the electorate of Telangana to vote for BRS candidates in the upcoming May 13 elections to thwart any endeavors aimed at converting Hyderabad into a union territory or a common capital for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the presence of at least 12 BRS MPs in Parliament could potentially lead to a change in leadership in Telangana within a year.

During a gathering of party members in Manakondur within the Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency, he asserted that only the BRS possesses the capability to prevent Hyderabad from becoming a union territory or a common capital, as well as to safeguard the Constitution.

Allegations were made against the BJP for attempting to amend the Constitution and undermine reservation policies, alongside purported injustices towards southern India. He stressed the necessity of BRS MPs in Parliament to counter such actions.

In praise of his father, KCR, the leader of the BRS, K.T. Rama Rao highlighted his continued engagement with the public despite challenges such as age, legal issues faced by family members, and internal party dynamics.

He criticized both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing them of reneging on promises made to the public. He also condemned PM Modi's remarks regarding the formation of Telangana.

K.T. Rama Rao pointed out the significant rise in fuel and commodity prices under the Union government, questioning the rationale behind additional taxes despite earlier levies for highway construction. He directed criticism towards Revanth Reddy, referring to him as 'Chhota Bhai', alleging that he deceived the people of Telangana with unfulfilled promises. Regarding BJP candidate Bandi Sanjay Kumar, K.T. Rama Rao questioned his competence and efficacy in parliamentary proceedings.

He described the electoral contest in Karimnagar as primarily between the BRS and BJP, alleging collusion between the BJP and Congress regarding candidate selection.

K.T. Rama Rao further claimed that despite strong contenders within the Congress for the Karimnagar ticket, the party opted for a weaker candidate due to fears of the BRS winning the election. He alleged collusion between Bandi Sanjay and Revanth Reddy regarding the Congress candidate selection in Karimnagar.
